How to save money and make 5 meals under $6.00

Ok. So first of i have to make sure i know what deals my food markets have and i only shop on the days they have discounts. Sure you might have to wait a bit longer to pay but at the end. the reward is better. which is save money specially on this tough economy. I live in bell gardens CA and i get 10 pounds of either legs or quarter legs for $4.90 or $5.90, and that's a great deal.

So with 10 pounds of chicken i took 5 pounds out and froze the other 5 pounds. The same week my 6 yr old and i had the flu so what i did i put my 5 pounds of chicken to cook in a big pan with water, celery, carrots, tomato and onion to make a delicious " caldo de pollo" or chicken soup as others call it. Once my chicken was cook i took half of the chicken and put it on another pan with mole sauce for my husband since he doesn't like caldo de pollo. and i had rice made already.
So meal

#1 Mole with rice
You can served it different ways, with a salad, or rice and beans

The next day since we were still under the weather i just added rice to my caldo de pollo and one can of tomato sauce, and then you have a new meal.
#2 Caldo de pollo
Add all the veggies u want such as potato, corn, carrots, celery

The next day since we were still under the weather i just added rice to my caldo de pollo and one can of tomato sauce, and then you have a new meal.
#3 arroz con pollo/ Rice with chicken
You can dressed it up with cilantro on top and lemon

Now remember you still have 5 pounds of chicken in the freezer. so for another day i take the chicken out and cook my chicken again with just water, salt and pepper. My chicken is ready and then i shred my chicken and i made chicken tacos.

#4 Chicken tacos
I dressed it up with shredded lettuce mix with pinto beans, corn and sour cream and avocado on top

I still had more chicken so i just wrap my chicken into some tortillas and stoked them in the freezer and whenever i was ready i just pop them out and fry them.
#5 Chiken taquitos
I served them by itself, dress it up with shredded lettuce and tomatoes on top add some cheese and salsa

Now you can choose to eat chicken all week and there you have it 5 meals under $6.00 of course i had the rest of the stuff, such as rice, beans, veggies, tortillas, and cheese and the stuff to make the salsa. But right here I'm just talking about the main ingredient and the most expensive some people may say. the chicken.
What i did i mix it up so one day we ate chicken and another day we ate something else like homemade tuna melt. and then chicken again and then we ate something else so you don't get tired of eating chicken everyday.

If you have any great ideas on how to save money and shop better i would love to hear about it. hope this was helpful
